WARDER ROUGHLY HANDLED.
BY PRISONERS
Invercargill, October 28.
An extraordinary affair is reported to" have occurred in the local reformatory prison. Two prisoners, escorted by Warder Fuller, were switching off electric lights in the long corridor, when they suddenly attacked the warder, striking him on the head with a slick and demanding the keys. The warder put up a stout resistance and managed, during a short cessation of hostilities to throw bis keys through a window unobserved. The prisoners returned to the attack and repeated the demand handling Fuller roughly. The noise of the struggle was overheard by Chiet-Gaoter Hawk'n who entered the corridor and locked himself in. The men saw that the game was up and surrendered, confessing that their desire was to escape. Fuller was rather severely knocked on the head and face.
