CRICKET.
The Mayor has received the following letter from Mr Sabin Horn, secretary ot the Horowhenua Cricket Association : “Dear Sir, —At the annual meeting of the above Association, only two Saturday clubs were represented, namely Shannon and Levin. This was in no way encouraging to enthusiasts of the summer pastime, and according to the rules under which the Challenge Shield is given. Unless there are three clubs or more the shield cannot be competed for. It would be a great pity to see cricket die down again, when last season it appeared to be so flourishing. On behalf of the above Association I respectfully beg of you to (or place this letter in the hands of those who will) do their best to resuscitate the game in your district. It was resolved to commence the season on the Bth Nov, I should be glad to get good news on or before the 4th Nov.”
In reference to the above, the Mayor suggests that a further meeting of local cricketers be convened with the object of making an attempt to arouse enthusiasm in the game.
