The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, October 21, 1913. THE LOCAL WHARF.
The Feilding Star, referring to the Foxton wharf purchase, in a recent editorial says:—“We almost forget how many thousands of pounds the last and pre sent Minister of Railways wauled the Foxton Harbour Board to pay for the wharf —something like ,£30,000 we udieve —aud now au expert reports that the structure is so rotten as to be in imminent danger ol falling into the river. For years the Railway Department has been collecting large sums for wharfage and preleudiug tha* it was railway earnings, aud it is scandalous that such an important structure should have been subjected to this scandalous neglect. It is bad enough to ask such an exhorbitaut sum for a wharf which should be handed over free ol cost, but how much worse to neglect to repair the ravages of time to such au extent ns to render the wharf almost useless.”
