He slated that the family were respected and honoured by everyone in tbe district, Mr Carter feelingly responded and thanked them for their tokens of good will. He hoped to have the pleasure of entertaining any of them il they cared to call at his home in Palmerston. The following took part in the musical programme : Misses Bowe, E. Carter, B. McDonald and Mrs Hall an 1 Messrs Fenwick jnn., Fenwick senr., Galland, Bovis, Saunders and Rees. Miss Doris Carter, of Shannon, a recent musical competition winner, delighted the audience by singing “The Catastrophe.” Miss Bessie McDonald played the accompaniments. Supper was provided by the ladies and the singing of “Auld Eang Syne” brought a very pleasant evening to a close.

Ou account ot the unavoidable absence of Miss Russell fiom tbe Moutoa leaching staff, the committee has decided to appoint someone in her place in the meantime.

Owing to a serious breakdown of the gas engine at the Poplar Flaxmill, il is unlikely to start for some lime and the management is making an effort to keep the employees engaged by working night shifts at their Foxlon mills.
