RUMOURS OF A WRECK.

Wellington, Oct. 10.

Rumours are current in the city to-day that the Federal-Shire steamer Morayshire, due here from Auckland, was ashore at Terawhiti.

Nothing could be learned to support such a story, and the Secretary ot the General Post Office stated to-night there was nothing in it.

He had communication wires from every shore station, including Terawhiti, and bad learned nothing about the vessel. It is presumed that in view o£ the severity of the weather last night the Morayshire kept away out to sea, thus accounting for her being overdue.
