WOMEN TO FIND A WIFE FOR A MAYOR.
Mr Edward Barry, the Mayor of Cambridge (U.S.A.), the home ot the late poet Longfellow and the city where Harvard University is located, is at present facing an embarrassing dilemma. Mr Barry makes an excellent mayor, but he is a bachelor.
Mr Barry is serving bis second term as Mayor, and is anxious again to be a candidate for the post, but the women declare that unless he marries they will secure his defeat. They have twice warned him. He admits that he promised during his first term to marry, but was unable to keep his promise because he could not find a suitable lady. The committee of the Woman’s Homestead Association have now arranged to submit a list of young women considered eligible by the committee, and the Mayor is to make his choice from this list. There is intense interest among the young ladies of Cambridge over the matter, as the Mayor is comparatively young, wealthy 7, and of excellent character.
