BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
On Thursday evening a meeting of the Bible-in-Schools Committee was held, the vicar of All Saints’ being in the chair. Apologieswere received from members who were unable to be present. The Chairman explained that owing to Mr F. W. Frankland’s early departure for England a new secretary bad to be appointed, and a very capable one had been found in Mr Frank Robinson, of Herrington. It was resolved on the motion of Mr R. T. Betty, and seconded by Mr Guilder, that a public meeting be held at an early date, and that the Rev H. C. Rosher, vicar of Palmerston N., be invited to speak on the Bible-in-schools movement. ,As Mr Rosher has taken a very active part in this very important question, and has addressed meetings all over the countrx, it was thought he would be able to throw a good deal of light on the subject. It was also resolved that the Mayor be invited to take the chair, and that the Revs. J. M. Thompson ♦
and T. Coatsworth be asked to give short speeches. It was further resolved that, as the vicar of Palmerston North is an adept platform speaker, and particularly good at answering questions, that opponents as well as supporters should be invited, so that the Foxton public should have an opportunity of hearing the pros, and cons with regard to the Bible-in-schools question. Anyone will be at liberty to speak either for or against the movement, and it is hoped that all sections of the community will be present. As the question of Bible-in-schools is of vital importance in N.Z. politics, there should be no difficulty in mustering a big meeting. The date of th emeeting will be advertised in a subsequent issue.
