HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A well-attended committee meeting of the above was held last night. Mr Witcbell presided. A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent Bulb Show was submitted by the secretary; the receipts totalled 12s iod, principal items being door takings £b 15s 6d, tea room ,£3, and entrance fees £7 17s; the expenditure totalled is 6d. which included prize money £7 10s 6d, printing and advertising and bii;e of hall .£5 17s 6d. A credit balance of ,£3 ns 4d was carried forward. A comparative statement of previous bulb shows was submitted, showing a marked advance. Accounts were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr and Mrs Rhodes for judging at the late show. Mrs Freeman was elected on the committee, vice Mrs Adams resigned, and the secretary was instructed to write to Dr. and Mrs Adams expressing the Society’s best wishes for a safe journey to the Old Land and a quick return. It was decided to purchase more serge for ihe tables and Mr Walsh was authorised to make up a number of table tops. Mrs Woods was accorded a special vote of thanks for presiding over the afternoon tea arrangements at the late show and a similar vote was passed to the band for services rendered.
It was decided to ask Mr Welghtmau to judge the pot plants and cut blooms at the Spring Show, with Mr Poole, of Wellington, as a substitute; cookery and home industries, Mis Smith (Levin); tancy-work, Mis Croucher (Palmerston N.); school work, Mr Watkiu (technical school, Feilding). Other routine business was transacted, and the meeting rose.
