THE BULB SHOW.
The local Horticultural Society’s Third Bulb Show which was held in the Masonic Hall, on Thursday, was a great success from every point of view and established a record in the history of the Society as far as the bulb shows are concerned.
The display of blooms was very fine indeed, particularly those entered lor the Citizens Trophy, and the judge’s duties iu awarding the prizes were no sinecure. In this connection, the judge, Mr Rhodes, is to he congratulated on the manner iu which he carried out his duties, his awards meeting with general approval. As tar as the number of exhibits was concerned this year’s show easily establishes a record, the total being 301 as against 126 last year and no at the first show. The gross takings on Thursday were also a record, being .£lO in excess of those of last year which was about 30s belter than the preceding show. The total takings amounted to ,£lB 10s rod made up of door receipts £6 13s 6d, tearooms entrance fees £7 17s, sale of blooms 15s 3d and buttonholes 5s id. The attendance, both afternoon and evening, was very satisfactory. In the evening the hall was practically packed. Music was played during the evening by the Borough Band and Mr Ebbelt’s orchestra and was greatly appreciated by those present. The officials of the Society headed by the President, Mr Wilchell, aud Secretary, Mr Patterson, had all arrangements iu connection with the function right up-to-date and the success of the show was due entirely to the enthusiasm they displayed.
The tearooms were under the capable management of Mrs Woods.

The Citizens’ Trophy, value £5 ss, for three distinct varieties of daffodils, three blooms of each, was won by Mrs Galland. Thera were 13 entries. r The prize for the champion bloom was won by Mr H. Witchell.
