The Wairarapa Egg Circle, during its 39 months of existence has disposed ot 117,123 dozen, or 1,405,476 eggs for the sum of 9s gd. It is contended that the journey from Wellington to Featherstan could be done by steamer in two hours.

Major William Richards, sou of Commissioner Richards, of the Salvation Army, has been appointed general secretary for the Dutch East Indies. During his fifteen years of officership, Major Richards has filled a variety of positions in the Army. He was trained in the International Training College, after which he was appointed to a position in the finances department of the Danish headquarters. Subsequently, he was appointed divisional secretary, and later assistant trade secretary. Adjutant S. Richards (Germany), Ensign D. Richards (South Africa) and Captain H. Richards (England) are other sous of New Zealand’s Commissioner.

At the meeting of the Manawatu County Council ou Tuesday, the Chairman was about to put a motion that notice be given that all rates must he paid by the 28th iust., when Cr Gray drew the attention of councillors to the unsatisfactory period of the year wheu ratepayers would be asked to pay their rates. Most of the ratepayers depended on milk cheques, and this source of revenue was not prolific at present. He considered the demand should not be made till the eud of October at the earliest. Cr McKenzie concurred, but Chairman Wilsou pointed out that the bank overdraft, alter paying the current accounts, would he within £6OO only of the limit. It was resolved to give notice that all rates must be paid by September 28th.

In the terrible railway disaster in which two big Scotch expresses collided iu England early on Tuesday morning, an uninjured lady survivor from a carriage wherein others were dying, rushed about asking: “Where are my gol: sticks ?’’ Mr Shailer, of Palmerston North, has donated a points prize of six new roses valued at is for roses at the Horticultural Society’s Spring Show and also a points prize of six new dahlias valued at. 12s 6d for cactus dahlias at the Autumn Show.
