MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
GENERAL MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday. Present : Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), H. H. Hunt, B. Gray, W. E. Barber, W. J. Phillips, H. Henson and R. B. McKenzie.
Correspondence was read as follows :
The Public Trustee, staling his willingness, to increase the hospital loan to £2500, subject to the approval of the Hospital Board. — Carried.
Palmerston Hospital Board, with details of proposed expenditure for extension of hospital and building of the Old People’s Home. Under the estimate the following levies would be made in excess of the annual estimate: Kiwitea County Council, 12s 4d ; Pohangina, ,£196 xos ; Oroua, ,£326 os 8d ; Manawatu, 9s 5d ; Feilding borough, 12s 8d ; and Rongotea Town Board, 7s 4d, Loan to be raised to cover the capital expenditure due, by the county, viz : and the costs of the loan. A vote of thanks was accorded the Chairman for bis explicit statement or the proposals of the Hospital Board. Horowhenua County Council, that Mr B. R. Gardener had been appointed as its arbitrator in connection with the assessment of contribution towards maintenance of the Foxton-Shannon road.—To be asked to appoint a disinterested engineer as arbitrator. Mat. Campbell, enquiring if the county would sell the piece of land near the old Shannon terry. — Plan of locality to be obtained, and request to be considered at next meeting.
R. Honour, ranger for Foxton Borough, asking for appointment as county ranger.—Appointed for Awahou riding and Whirokino subdivision.
The following transfers on the rate roll were agreed to : —J. H. Gibbs and A. J. Gibbs, to H. G. Hammond, 2,033, acres; C. F. Johnston to P. Setter, 2 acres 2r 34p., Foxton ; C. F. Johnston to G. A. Hobbs, 5 acres, Foxton; C. F. Johnston to C. Eundquist, 2a 2p 34p., Foxton. The overseer reported on the Awahou riding as underßepairs hive been effected on the various roads by filling in ruts and holes. About 25 chains of the Foxton Beach road has been banked up to the edge ot metal, and a man is now employed filling in ruts and putting the road in order. —The report was adopted. The Tramway Manager, Mr A. K. Drew, reported that, owing to extra expenditure, a debit balance of £39 14s 8d was made in August. The extra items of expense include £gi 2s yd for coah Owing to the unsettled state pf coal mine labour, it is advisable tp lay in a good stock of coal, and this is being done. The two D cars purchased from the Railway Department have come to hand, and ha\e been set up. The chief items of traffic for the month were: Minerals 171 tons, merchandise 202 tons, flax 31 trucks, raetgl 355 yards, timber 72,600 feet, fares amounted to £4. 19s 2d.'
The County Treasurer, Mr A. K. Drew, reported on the finances as follows: General account, dr., 9s ; Riding account i9s yd, 5s qd, Waitohi 6s 3d, Rongotea £202 6s . nd, Carnarvon 6s 1 id, Kawakawa, dr., 6s sd, Awahou, dr., £B7 17is 1 id. Report adopted.
