The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, August 26th., 1913. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
The water and drainage question was advanced another step at last night’s Borough Council meeting, when Mr Suggate, of Auckland, was authorised to submit a gravitation water scheme from the Shannon hills and alternate local artesian water supply with air compression and sewerage scheme. Mr Suggate is to be congratulated upon being selected by the Council for this work from among a number of the Dominion’s well-known civil engineers. The preparation of such an important proposal entails a considerable amount of work, and the cost to the borough is surprisingly small. That, however, is not the concern of the Council. Mr Suggate is preparing a water supply scheme for Shannon township and no doubt that work will include much of the detail information required Tor the Foxton gravitation scheme. One point which should be clearly kept in view by the Council is that the Foxton gravitation scheme should not in any way be linked with the Shannon township proposal. Foxton must stand alone in water supply matters.
