FOXTON BOWLING BLUB.

The annual meeting of the Bowling Club, held last night, was well attended.

The adoption of the report and balance-sheet was moved by Mr Stiles, seconded by Mr Hopper, and carried. In speaking to his motion, Mr Stiles said he had very much pleasure in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet. The Club had reason to be proud of its financial position and the progress that had been made during the past year. The thanks of the Club were due to those gentlemen who had surrendered their debentures, and he would especially mention the valuable services that had been rendered by their energetic secretary, Mr Witchell. A great deal of the success of the Club was due to his efforts. There was one matter in connection with the report that he desired to draw attention to, and that was in reference to Sunday play. He thought this was an opportune time to know what the policy of the Club was to be during the coming year, and he purposed asking the Chairman to have a friendly test of the meeting taken on this matter, as the position of himself and other members depended upon the ■ answers given. He would move “that the bowling green be not opened for Sunday play.” There was some discussion on the motion, and on it being put to the meeting it was lost, there being six votes for and twelve against it.

The vexed question of the ladies voting was amicably arranged, the ladies in future to have control of their croquet lawns and the gentlemen the bowling green, the subscriptions all going into the one fund.

The following gentlemen handed in their debentures: — Messrs Stiles £lO, Rimmer £lO, Woods £5, Hornblow £5, and were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. These together with the previous £25 already acknowledged means a gain to the Club of The following new members were elected : —Messrs Geo. and F. D. Whibley, Dr. Mandl, Healey, Bryant, Kent-Johnston and McCall.

The election of officers was then proceeded with. President, Mr H. Witchell; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Stunnel, F. S. Easton and Harvey; Committee, Messrs D. Whibley, Reid, Freeman, Rimmer and Petrie;, Secretary and Treasurer, Mr C. J. Kent-John-ston ; Auditor, Mr A. J. Kellow. Mr Witchell in returning thanks for his election as President said he regretted very much having to surrender the position of Secretary and it was only pressure of business that caused him to do so, and whilst much appreciating the compliment paid him, he would have much preferred to join the rank and file, enjoying his game as an ordinary member. He thanked all members for the way they had worked with him for the welfare of the Club, more especially the lady members and their Committee who were mainly responsible for the satisfactory state of the Club. In the course of his speech he announced that the expenditure of the Club to date was and that the last euchre and dance was the most successful yet held and showed a net profit of £9 4s 6d. Before the conclusion of the meeting he was elected a life member.

A hearty vote of thanks to all the retiring officials concluded the meeting.
