ENTERTAINMENTS.
SKATING. There is every prospect of there being a large attendance at the municipal skating rink to-night, to witness the final in the hockey tournament. As this fascinating game has become so popular on the local rink of late there should be some fine exhibitions given. There are four teams entered and the skippers of each are confidence of securing a win, and have been busy lor some time past coaching their team and preparing generally for the final battle. Mr F. Woods has kindly consented to control the games. This exhilarating winter pastime has taken on wonderfully in Foxton, and the popularity it has gained is no doubt due to the systematic methods of the manager, Mr H. McArtney, who has left no stone unturned to bring to-night’s event to a successful issue. Skaters should roll up iu good numbers and reward the manager for the time and trouble he has spent on their behalf, so that they can prove their skill on the “rollers.” During the evening the Foxton Borough Band, under the baton of Bandmaster Ebbett, will render a varied programme of music. Spectators will be admitted for 6d and everybody should take advantage of having a good evening’s amusement for the above small sum. MUNICIPAL PICTURES. The programme for Saturday night promises to be as attractive and of as high-class an order as those always exhibited by the Municipal enterprise. The star drama, “A Woman’s Honour,” is a powerful and intensely dramatic story, which is acted with rare vigour and finish. The film embraces many sensational episodes that will fascinate even the most experienced picture theatre patron. The other dramas are, “Mari. Louise” and “Senator’s Dishonour.” The former is a pathetic little story of an old man’s love for his boat. Many beautiful sea views are depicted, together with an interesting story, combine to make this a most interesting subject; the latter is a highly sensational drama with a strong motive. The educational film, “Orange Growing, shows the growing and gathering, and other particulars, of this fruit industryIn comics there is an extra strong programme. “Calamity Anne, Detective.” is a first-class Western comic, describing the captures of a female crime investigator, “Wild Man for a Day” is a film which is one long laugh from start to finish. “Flo the Flapper” is a great comic which will be much enjoyed by the younger members of the male persuasion, and “Polidor’s Gift,” like all these films, is brimful of merriment. The whole length of the programme is 7,292 feet, and no doubt will meet with the usual appreciation shown by local patrons, HAYWARD’S PICTURES. The star film to be shown at Hayward’s on Saturday night is entitled, “The Mystery of the Esk City Bank,” a picture abounding in interest and thrilling situations. It shows the sheriff in his endeavours to unravel the mystery of the murder of the nightwatchman, sleeping on the bank premises. He is disturbed by the appearance of a large snake, and after disposing of that, surprises two Chinamen who are bent on robbing the institution. The final scene in the picture depicts a splendid motor car chase between the thieves and the sheriff. “A Clue to her Parentage” is a very prettily acted drama, and “The Sheriff’s Daughter,” a coloured film by the A.K. Company, unfolds a story of a girl who wastes her love on a ne’er-do-well. “The Australian Gazette,” depicting items of current interest, and a scenic film, “Around Agra and Lucknow,” will also be screened. “Rearing Greyhounds” is a picture of educational interest, and there will also be several good trick and comedy films.
