SKATING CARNIVAL.

The following Is a list of events and prizes for the forthcoming skating carnival: — Ladies’ fancy or poster dress, set silver brushes and combs ; gents.’ fancy or poster dress, case Gilette safety razor and toilet set; most comical character, silver cigarette case; ladies’ musical gents.’, set ot button hook and shoe lift; ladies’ egg and spoon race, silver butter dish and knife ; best couple, ladies prize silver jam dish, gents, silver back brush and comb; gents.’ half-mile, shaving companion and dressing case ,* gents.’ musical chairs, set military brushes ; ladies’ half mile, jewel case ; gents.’ potato race, silver serviette ting ; special, lady wearing largest hat, Mr J. Golder’s prize, silver hat pin ; gent, wearing smallest hat, Mrs Freeman’s prize; this year’s learner gents., Mrs Parkes’ prize, fountain pen ; most original costume, Mrs McArtney’s prize, silver egg cruet. The municipal skating rink will be open for two sessions next week, viz., Monday and Thursday. On Monday night a ladies hockey match will be played at 8.30. Thursday night a special attraction will be held when the hockey tournament will be played for gold medals. Mr F. Woods has kindly consented to control the play. Hockey on skates is a very fine pastime also amusing to spectators, who will be admitted for the small amount of sixpence. On Thursday, August 2tst, a grand fancy dress and poster carnival will be held from 7 p.m. to n. 30, when a number oi valuable prizes will be presented for competition, also a number of special prizes now on exhibition in Mr Bradley’s window. Skaters requiring fancy costumes can obtain same for a small charge from Mrs King, Harbour St., who is agent for Madame Foley’s renowned costumes.
