C.E.M.S.
On Tuesday evening the members of the C.E.M.S. held a smoke concert in All Saints’ schoolroom. The attendance was very good, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The vicar, after a few remarks on the object of the Society, asked the members to appoint a chairman for the evening. Mr Kent-Johnston was elected, and proceeded at once to make things go with a swing. He called first on one and then on another for a song, recitation or speech, and the time slipped away all too quickly. The following gentlemen contributed songs: Messrs Barber, Hollington, Blakely, Jenks, Kellow, Collins, Woods, and Entwistle, and Messrs Bangs, Thompson, Woods, Boyes, Blakely and Kellow were the speakers of the evening. The chairman gave a humorous sketch, “The Initiation of Father into the Lodge,” which was received with acclamation. By the energies of Messrs Entwistle, Boyes, and Crow, a most bountiful supper was provided, during which Mr Betty gave some appreciated records on his graraaphone. The chairman thanked all who bad taken part in the evening’s enjoyment, and the singing of the National Anthem brought a memorable evening to a close.
