MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Tuesday, Present:— Crs. Wilson (chairman), Gray, Hunt, Henson and McKenzie. Crs Phillips and Barber were granted leave of absence. Correspondence was read as follows: —
From the Superintendent of State Guaranteed Advances Office, regretting the Department could not entertain loan for capital expenditure on hospital buildings, the law not empowering such an advance from the Department.Received.
From Mr Edward Newman, M.P., enclosing letter from Public Trustee that loan of £1,200 for hospital building fund could be obtained from that Department— The clerk reported that he had written to the Public Trustee asking on what basis he wanted the matter set down.
From District Engineer, that Railway Department had no old rails for sale.—Deft to the clerk.
From S. J. Hartley, Himatangl, asking permission to build on Council’s road ground at Himatangi.—Left over. The treasurer reported on the bank balances as follows ;—General account, dr., ,£4,442 9s 3d; loan account, cr., £34 8s yd ; net dr. balance, £3,409 is id. Riding accounts; Amounts available for expenditure to March 31st, 1914, Sandon £164 17s lod, Mt. Stewart £IBO 13s rod, Waitohi £195 14s sd, Rongotea £397 19s yd, Carnarvon £304 18s lod, Kawaknwa £l5O 15s qd, Whirokino £217 ns 1 id. Amounts overexpended : Awabou, £7l 9 s 3d* The tramway manager reported on the working of the tramway for the month of July as follows : —The traffic was good, and a credit balance of £33 2s 3d was made. The chief items of traffic were: —Minerals 201 tons, merchandise 137 tons, flax 52 trucks, metal and clay 305 yards, timber 57,000 feet. The fares amounted to £4 4s 4d. The repairs to boiler of locomotive “Manawatu” have been completed.
