A VICAR KILLED.

Napier, August 4; To-night, about dusk, the Rev. W. R. M. Cockerill, vicar of Waipavva, was returning home on his motor cycle when he collided with a horse and gig.

He was removed from beneath the horse’s feet on to the roadside and apparently was in urgent need of medical attention.

A motor car was procured and he was removed to the County Hospital, where he expired shortly afterwards. An examination showed that one of the shafts of the gig had penetrated his face, lacerating the brain.

Deceased was recently appointed vicar of Waipawa.
