ENTERTAINMENTS.
“THE DANDIES.”
To-night, at the Town Hall, Mr Edward Branscombe’s new English Costume Comedy Company will make their first appearance in Foxton. The members of the company are all new to New Zealand, with the exception of three who were original members of the Scarlet Troubadours, viz,, Miss Rita Fitzgerald (comedienne), Miss Ijly Fitzgerald (soprano), and Mr Ford Waltham, the popular basso. The remaining eight members of the company are said to be specialists in their lines of business, and the entertainment, which covers an exceptionally large range, includes the latest novelties in high-class solo and part singing, dances, musical sketches, dainty concerted numbers, etc. It is claimed that this is the best of the “Dandies” companies, and the key-notes struck by this' company are freshness, variety and ' clean and crisp comedy that is entirely free from any taint of vulgarity. There is no chance of a dull moment. The Dandies’ entertainment attracts all classes ot the community who appreciate fun that is without offence, and music that refreshes. Those seeking a delightful evening’s entertainment should patronise this company, and to avoid disappointment intending patrons are. advised to book their seats. The box plan is open at the Town Clerk’s Office.
MUNICIPAL PICTURES. The. large and representative audience which greeted the Municipal pictures on Saturday night, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather and counter attractions, once again proved the old saw “ that nothing succeeds like success,” and that the residents of' Foxton are still loyal to the Municipal enterprise. The programme for Wednesday evening is again of exceptional value. The star film “ The Guiding Light,” 2,000 feet long, tells in a thrilling manner of the beautiful blind daughter of a lighthouse keeper who discovers that her father has been struck by a ruffian and disabled from attending to the light which has been put out. Though blind she lights the lamp in time to save a crew of fishers from being dashed against the rocks. The other drama films, “ The Wrong Bottle” and ‘‘Two Little Scapegoats ” are both of a charming and appealing nature. The comic films, “ A Leap Year Proposal,” "Near Sighted Cupid,” ‘‘The Leopard and the Burglars” and “ The Heroic Rescue,” are such as will convulse the audience with laughter. The first showing how a shrewd young lady reporter gained her story for the newspaper and also gained a husband. In the second, vociferous merriment is caused through the mix up of two valises, one belonging to a doctor and the other to a young lady, the doctor finding female flippery instead of skulls and the young lady horrified at finding skulls instead of her finery. The Edison film, *' Heroic Rescue,” is needless to describe as its name guarantees its excellence, and the scenics ‘‘St. Gothard” and “ Wild Waves ” are films gloriously scenic, depicting many incidental spots of beauty that words cannot describe.
