SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held in the schoolhouse on Thursday night. Present: — Messrs Horublow (chairman), Betty, Henderson, Hunt, Rev. Thomson, Read and Alex Speirs. Apologies were tendered for the absence of Messrs Coley and Hussey. The Rev. Mr Thomson reported that he had conferred with the ministers and teachers in respect to changing the morning for Bible instruction classes and Thursday had been substituted for Friday. The committee unanimously confirmed the alteration, The Chairman reported that he had obtained a report from the head teacher re the Unique Healer which the Board bad sent to the school lor experimental purposes. The healer proved more economical from a fuel consuming point of view and radiated a greater heat than the stoves. He had written to the Board suggesting that similar heaters be placed in the other class rooms. He believed the Board had decided to grant the request. He had also had the old stove erected in the office which was used as a study by the pupil teachers who greatly appreciated its warmth. The room could also be used by the committee for future meetings. —The Chairman’s actions were endorsed. The Chairman also referred to the appeal made for funds in aid of the school library which had resulted in ,£ix odd being subscribed. This sum, with the Board’s £lO subsidy, should provide the nucleus of a library which in lime should be equal to any primary school library in the Dominion. The Committee favourably commented on the effort and warmly endorsed all that had been done in the matter. The visitors report was adopted. The head teacher reported that the attendances for the past four weeks were 332-5, 323-2, 331 "8, 324-4 ; the average attendance for the whole period was 327-4, out of an average roll number of 374-5 ; the present roll number is 375. —It was decided to purchase a further quantity of coal. —It was decided to ask the head teacher to take the necessary steps to have the native children attending the school vaccinated and also to ask the district health officer to thoroughly disinfect the school as a safeguard against other infectious diseases. A grant of one guinea towards the library fund was authorised. Several accounts were passed for payment, Messrs Hunt and Hussey were appointed visitors for the mouth.
