THE GAS WORKS.
The gas committee submitted the following recommendations to the Borough Council ar last night’s meeting : That it be an instruction to the gas manager that the minimum charge to all consumers of gas be 2S.
That the mains be extended to the corner of Putter Street provided six new consumers can be obtained. That a door be put in the wall so as to allow of the men getting from the engine room to the retorts and that a 6 x 6 leanto shed with window and door, be built over the arm of the weigh bridge shed. That as an inducement lor consumers to use gas cookers the rate for gas used in cookers from August ist be as follows: Up to 2000 ft. ios per 1000, up to 3000 ft. 9s 2d per 1000, over 3000 ft. 8s 9d per iooo, the net charge if paid by 6s 8d and 6s 3d per xoooft. respectively. That tte Town Clerk get prices for the complete erection of a 20000 ft. gasometer and two new 6ft. 6in. purifiers.
JUNE WORKING. During the month of June the amount of gas manufactured was 390,000 ft, which added to the amount in bolder on the first ot the month, 4000 ft, gives a total oi 394,000 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 200,700 ft, 118,900 ft. for cooking and power, 30,000 ft. was used in the street lamps, 30,000 ft. in the works and manager’s house and there was 4,000 ft. in holder on the first of July, leaving 10,400 ft. unaccounted for. Thirty-five tons of coal was carbonised, yielding n,142 ft. per ton. The earnings amounted to 8d made up of gas sales is, tar sales /11 18s, coke sales £3 5 s 3d aQ d fittings £lO ns 5d- The expenditure was : Coal £4B 2s 6(1 and wages £29, interest and sinking fund £59 IS 8d, totalling £137 23 2d.
