FOUND HANGING.

A SEAMAN’S DEED

Wanganui, July 10

The police have received word to-day from Mr Connor, ot Raorakia (about fourteen miles up the river), that he had found the body of a man hanging to a tree.

The body proved to be that of a seaman named Charles Woods, aged 29, single, and supposed to have been lately a fireman on the steamer John,

About a fortnight ago he asked at the Connor’s for work, and was given a meal, no work being available.

The body seemed to have been dead at least a week. It is evidently a case ot suicide. The man had used a handkerchief and a piece of wire to do the desperate deed.
