THE “LIVING SAINT.”
NUN BKDRIDDKN FOR 52
YKARS
Sister Maria Benedetta Prey, a nun living at Viterbo, Italy, who has been bedridden for fifty-two years, is being visited by many prominent Roman Catholics, who consider her a “living saint.” She was the victim of an accident in IS6I which fractured her spine, liver since she has lain on a couch, with a pillow nailed to the wall as a head rest, and has shown such patience that she is known as the “living saint.” When she celebrated her fiftieth anniversary as an incurable invalid two years ago Pope Pius sent her an autograph letter, in which he expressed the hope that she might be spared many years as an example of patience and fortitude. Some visitors claim that the invalid nun is able to cure diseases, and she is credited with having witnessed the assassination of the late King Humbert in a vision the night before bis death.
