FOOTBALL.

The following five men have been chosen out of Foxton juniors to represent North in the match North v. South, at Levin, next Saturday; Hennessy, Cummerfield, Baker, Andreson, Neville. Coach leaves at 1 p.m. sharp.

A Hui Mai player named George was suspended for a week for disputing the referee’s decision.

At the last meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union a protest against the Weraroa Football Club’s win over Foxton was lodged by Foxton juniors, the ground being that the Weraroa team did not plav in its club colours. The protest w„s formally made to the referee before the match, on the ground that some members of the Weraroa Club were in odd colours.

On the committee consulting the rules, it was seen that the rule provided only (a) for the reporting of any player who was in wrong colours, and (I)) that no club shall play in its opponents’ colours.

The captain of Foxton deposed that there were three kinds of colours represented iu Weraroa’s team —viz., red, white and blue, the proper colour ; also red and black and all-black. A greeu-aud-blaek jersey, objected to before the match, was not worn iu the match. The chairman commented that it was useless for the union to insist upon clubs wearing their own uniform unless the rule was enforced. Mr Macdonald supported this contention, but Mr Broughton said the protest was frivolous and paltry. Only two Weraroa men were in their wrong colours, and as Foxton were all in their own colours there could have been no confusion. Mr Moreland said it seemed to him there had been a previous argument and as a consequence Foxton had protested in accordance with the rules. Evidently the referee had failed in his duty to report the matter of the protest, as required by the rules.

Mr Moreland would move that the referee be requested to attend the Union’s next meeting and give an account of the matter.

Mr Procter seconded the amendment, and it was carried unanimously. In the meantime all clubs are required to be careful to conform to the uniforms rule.
