REGULATION IN VICTORIA,

Melbonrne, June 14.

Scoffs have not; deterred the Victorian Board of Health from its crusade against the marriage ot the unfit.' : The board has sought a new law providing that parties to a marriage shall be compelled to produce certificates of good health and a clean constitution.

The proposal was isome time ago greeted with laughter and scorn. The board has, however, affirmed the principle, and initiated a campaign, for. its adoption. Its latest move is to write to the authorities of the State of Dakota, U.S.A., for inlormation as to the working of a similar regplation there. ;T|he . American measure is drastic, , forbidding the marriage within the State of any “ common. drunkard, habitual criminal,.' epileptic,. feeble-minded parson, •. idiot, insane person,, or anyone, who has been affected: by. hereditary insanity, pulmonary tuberch- ’ losis in any advanced stage, or any contagious or, .venereal disease.” It- insists that bride'’ and bridegroom shall show * ah' • affidavit that they»are qualified to • marry,—Sydney Sun.
