PRESENTATION TO MR ALF. FRASER.
A very pleasant little ceremony took place in the Mayor’s room of the Council Chambers shortly after noou to-day when the whole of the Council employees, issembled to make a presentation to the retiring Town Clerk. Mr AT. Fraser, who relinquishes bis duties as from to-day. The employe s did not beat the big drum, and
■ consequently sprang a complete surprise upon Mr Fraser Mr Stuuell, gas manager, on behalf the employees in asking M r Fraser to accept a handsome oak smoker’s cabinet, referred to the esteem in which Mr Fraser w.is held by them all. He had di s-
charged bis duties in a straightforward, manly and impartial manner, and had won the esteem and respect of all who had come under bis jurisdiction. The p; e sentation was to mark the esteem in which he was held by them. They regretted his resignation, and he could assure Mr Fraser that he had their best wishes for his future success. He also ask .d Mr Fraser to accept on behalf of Miss Fraser, bis late assistant, a solid silver jewel casket, and asked Mr Fraser to convey to the recipient their best wisheo in her new sphere of labour. Mr Fraser, in acknowledging the kindly feelings which prompted them, to use an expression‘of one present, was “ knocked all of a heap.” lie
sincerely thanked them on behalf of himself and daughter, and said the presentation would ever lemiud him of past associations.
