HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Mr H. Witchell (president) pre* sided over the first meeting of the newly-elected committee of the above society last night. Before the minutes were read the president briefly addressed those present and expressed the hope that members would show the same enthusiasm as in the past and work zealously for the society’s welfare during bis term of office. All the old committee are again in office except Mr Woods, whp; re* signed and whose place is filled by Mr Whibley senr. It was decided to hold the Bulb Show on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd, in the Masonic Hall. It was decided on the motion of Mr Kempster, that 6d per entry be charged except where otherwise stated.
The schedule was gone through and adopted with several alterations.
The President said he was moving in the matter of a citizens’ trophy for the Bulb Show and the following regulations were adopted re same: The trophy to be for three different varieties of daffodils, any kind, except doubles or polyanthus, three blooms of each ; not to cost more than 2s 6d per bulb and to be grown solely by the exhibitor. The trophy to be won three times before it becomes the property of the winner, entrance fee is.
It was decided to award points prizes of 5s in each section. Mr Mason was appointed judge.
A sub-committee was appointed to prepare and submit to a future meeting the catalogues for the Spring ahd Autumn Shows.
