A RUN OF BAD LUCK.

Bad luck sometimes comes iu single file followed closely by another file with a sharp edge (says the Opunake Times). This was Mr G. Looney’s experience last Saturday week. Master Loouey set out to tether a hull, the animal got restive and broke through into Mr Malcolm’s farm, and from there to Mare Horo’s place, and then to the Waiau, where it disappeared over the high bank, breaking its neck ; the animal was a valuable one. Mr Looney and party then .set out with a twohorse team to haul the dead body from the vicinity of the river, anticipating the work with a block and tackle hitched on to the axle of the dray to haul the dead weight up the embankment. The task was too difficult by this means ; the leader was unhitched, and the next move was to go round and down the river ; Mi Looney slewed the shaft horse round, forgetting for the while the rope attached to the cart and the dead animal; the shatter heaved on the rope, which tightened up, but the horse, of course, could not shift the burden, which had been tried by tandem, and the weight from behind forced the horse and dray over the cliff, killing the horse (a specially good brood mare) and damaging the dray. It was a quick run of very bad luck.
