EMPIRE DAY.
The Wanganui Education Board has decided that Empire Day (May 24th) shall be fitly celebrated at the schools of the district on the day before, Friday. The following programme is recommended: —(1) Assembly; (2) National Anthem; (3) saluting of the flag: (4) addresses which would naturally refer in part to imperial defence, defence of our own country, to the resources, history, and development of New Zealand, and to the place presently to be filled by the children now in our schools ; (5) patriotic songs, readings and recitations ; (6) llessons from history; (7) lessons on the geography of the Empire ; (8) lessons on civics ; (9) parade of cadets (lower classes being dismissed). It is suggested that the headteacher should confer with Committee with a view to making the celebration v/ortby of the occasion.
