THE ROYAL PICTURES.
A splendid programme has been obtained-by “The Royal” management for Monday night. The star film is, “Behind the Mask,” a fascinating love story portraying the efforts of a devoted girl to save her sister from the clutches of an unscrupulous adventurer. The story relates how Edgar Allen, spendthrift, after being practically engaged to Ellen Smith, transferred his love to the latter’s sister because the sister was in possession of considerable wealth. Ellen makes enquiries as to Allen’s real position and finds that he is living far beyond his means, and is in the habit of frequenting MaximV dancing hall. Having a natural talent for dancing Ellen enters on the stage and dances “Behind a Mask” fascinating her sister’s lover. Oh the night of her sister’s betrothal a young masked dancer appears and causes ' embarrassment to Allen. Unmasking she produces proof ot his perfidy and the sister is saved from a life of misery. Among other films is one showing “Monkey Trapping” a very good one taken in the heart of the African jungle. The rest of the programme is made tip by a fine assortment of good films including, “Brothers in Arms” a splendid drama and some really funny comedies.
SKATING. •The Municipal rink this season shows every indication of retaining the popularity it earned during last winter, the attendances of the past few weeks being very good. The music dispensed by the Borough Band tends to make the rink more popular than ever, but is not heard to its full advantage owing to its position in the dress circle, and would perhaps be better accommodated nearer the level of the floor. The learners’ room is still the refuge of a few of the inexperienced, but the confidence and ability shown this season by those who buckled on the rollers for the first time last year is most noticeable. The floor is in 'good skating order, and the thorough enjoyment of patrons is apparent in their happy expressions of countenance and voice. This pastime should maintain its popularity throughout the season, and it is hoped will culminate in a carnival worthy of the rink and ife patronage. The 4 only night on which skating will be held in the Coronation Hall next week will be Thursday, the building being occupied on every other evening.
