He seeks the aid of a lady, who is beautiful but unscrupulous, and manages to get her to persuade Gaston into buying on credit from a jeweller a pearl necklace. Gaston- promises to pay for it in three months’ time, and he is then persuaded to pawn it for 30,000 francs. When Goffman hears that Gaston is disinherited he is amazed. To gain his own ends he manages to get suspicion placed on the fiance of the girl, who was left wealthy, ot the theft of the pearl necklace. Claude is arrested, but later the police find that he is innocent, and the picture ends to the satisfaction of all with everything righted. The programme also includes, “Una of the Sierras,” a Vitagraphcomedydrama, which is full of interest, being one of the best yet released by this popular company.
