Mr F. W. Phrankland said that he couldn’t express his feelings of regret at Mr Stewart’s departure. His loss would .be greatly felt. He had been one of the speaker’s best friends and he would very much miss his society. He expressed the hope that Foxton would not permanently lose him and that he would later on again take up his residence here. Mr A. D. Clemett also referred to the loss that Foxton would sustain by Mr Stewart’s departure. As chairman of the school committee he had been closely associated with him for a number of years and a fast friendship had sprung up between them. On behalf of the Masonic Lodge he also wished to expre cc ™ r ; r et that Mr Stewart was leaving Foxton. He was an old member and his loss would be keenly felt. Mr Stewart, in replying, thanked them from the bottom of his heart for their expression of goodwill and kindly feeling, also for their very handsome present. He said that if he spoke for hours he would not be able to express the gratitude he felt for the sympathy and kindness that had been shown him during the past week.
