TYSER LINER WRECKED
NINE MILES NORTH OF RANGITIKEI RIVER.
REPORTED TO BE BREAK ING UP FAST.
The Indrabarah, a cargo boat, beloagingito the Tyser line, went ashore on the Rangitikei beach last night. The news was brought to Bulls by McLaren, oue of the crew, who walked several miles to Mr Dalrymple’s homestead. It was a very stormy night, and heavy rain was falling, and a big sea was running.
All the crew were got safely ashore although one or two were in a very exhausted condition.
The latest advice is that the steamer, which is about a quarter of a mile from the shore, is breaking up fast.
The scene of the wreck is about nine miles north of the mouth of the Rangitikei river. The Indrabarah was on her way from Gisborne to Wanganui roadstead, and passed the Wellington Heads at one o’clock yesterday afternoon. The vessel was afterwards to have continued homeward, loading at Lyttelton and Wellington, and was due to sail from Wellington for London, via Las Palmas, on the 23rd instant.
