The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, May 6th., 1913.
Thk first meeting (special) of the recently-elected Borough Council will be held to-morrow night, when the formal declarations will be made. We take this opportunity of congratulating the Councillors upon their election, and hope their administration will justify the confidence reposed in them by the electors. With one exception the new Council secured a majority vote of the burgesses, which is a further cause for congratulation- Six members of the old Council offered themselves for reelection and four were returned by substantial majorities, namely Crs J. Chrystall, Geo. Coley, Alex. Speirs aud G. Whibley. The new blood is represented by Crs. T. Henderson, L. Freeman, Geo.. Barber, D. Green and S. Read, none of whom have previously served on the Council, although several of them have had previous experience on other public institutions. The Council as at present constituted should work together harmoniously, and be able to give a good account of their stewardship, An appreciation is due to the defeated candidates, who were prepared to sacrifice their time for the common good. We do not think the Mayor will have cause to complain of the gentlemen who will be associated with him in controlling the destinies of Foxton during the coming terra, and we hope the borough will advance as a result of their combined efforts.
