SAVED ON A RAFT.
Auckland, May 5.
Cable news from Suva, dated May 5 (received at at 7.35 p.m.) states that the schooner Lyman D. Forster, from Puget Sound to Suva with a million feet of lumber, was caught in a hurricane off Turtle Island in the Lau group on the Tsth ult., and dismasted.
Her rudder and all her boats were damaged, and a third of her cargo was swept away. Capt. Hillman and ten of her crew built a raft and abandoned the ship. On Thursday they reached the island of Kabara, and thence proceeded by a cutter to Levuka on Sunday. The cargo was insured.
Lloyd’s agent has despatched the Waipori to search tor the wreck.
