PUBLIC CONTROL OF LIQUOR.

Sydney, April 30

The Sydney Morning Herald, commenting on the drink bill, says very tew people not directly benefiting from the trade can view the v,*ry large increase iu the expenditure in drink in New South Wales without regret. The lamentable fact remains that all the labour put into the work of reform has not apparently affected either the drinking habits of the people or the steadily increasing revenue derived from the sale, wherein every person, including the most vigorous opponent of the trade, shares. The Herald advocates as the best remedy for checking the growth the elimination of the factor of private profit.
