The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, April 22nd., 1913. MR FRASER’S RESIGNATION.

It is a truism that no man is indispensible—one passes and author takes bis place with more or less efficiency. This applies to all public officers. But when the public—the most exacting taskmaster —is served faithfully and efficently it does not like to part with the services of a tried and trusty servant, and it is with feelings of sincere regret we learn that Foxton is to lose Its Town Clerk, Mr Alf. Fraser, after a period of fourteen years faithiul service, and a record in municipal administration of which any Town Clerk should feel justly proud. As we have previously stated, the public is a hard taskmaster, and a municipal official is subject to the pin pricks of faultfinding individuals —amateur civil engineers, marvellous wizards of finance, economists, and carping critics—who glibly tell how things should be done. Our Town Clerk of late has been a target for such individuals, but we have yet to find the man who has discovered a flaw in the discharge of his multifarious duties. We have no desire to indulge in fulsome flattery, but we marvel that a man of Mr Fraser’s undoubted business capabilities should so circumscribe his activities lor the emoluments which his present position affords. His loss will be keenly felt by Councillors and ratepayers who recognise his worth. In conversation with the late Mayor, Mr Stiles, who has been associated with Mr Fraser In municipal matters for many years, he said a long period would elapse before Foxton could hope to secure the services of a man of equal knowledge and abiltty in municipal administrative affairs. This will be endorsed by all who have had experience in local municipal matters. As to the immediate cause of Mr Fraser’s retirement, we can only leave our readers to speculate. Under the circumstances electors, should see to It that the very best men offering for positions ou the Council are returned in order to deal with the new circumstances which have aiiser.
