MANIFESTO OF THE PROGRESSIVE PARTY. • TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF FOXTON. We, the undersigned, respectfully offer ourselves as candidates for your suffrages at the forthcoming election of Councillors to the Borough. Although representatives of the industrial workers of the community, we shall unitedly strive for ‘die common weal, and will endeavour to initiate a new and progressive policy in accordance with the best interests of the Borough. Should we be elected as Borough Administrators, we shall, during our terra of office, give our most con sistent support to the policy of our Party, which shall be as follows (1) The raising of a £25,000 loan at a rate of'interest not higher than 5 per cent. (2) A healthful and permanent water supply, with a complete and effective drainage system. (3) A systematical campaign in cooperation with other Bodies for the purpose of bringing the local wharf under the control of the Foxton Harbour Board. (4) Giving our best favour and support to the proposed Tramway extension from Sandon and the linking up from Levin to Marton or Greatford. (5) Proper care and attention to the streets and footpaths, the periodical tarring of Main Street, and the erection of sanitary conveniences, water trough and tap at some suitable site therein.

(6) The establishment (if empowered by statutory law) of Municipal coal yards. (7) Proper supervision of the Municipal Gas Works, better lighting for the streets, with an extension of the system, and added facilities for household use. (8) Reduction of Municipal picture prices, introducing better films, and other minor improvements. (9) Rigid inspection of the Borough accounts, with an effort to curtail unproductive expenditure.
