STREET LIGHTING.
At last night’s Council meeting, Cr Stewart menti.vred that the street lighting at the present time was far from satisfactory, and suggested that some other system of lighting aud extinguishing the lamps should be introduced, as the clockwork at present in use was not giving satisfaction. The Mayor and other Councillors present agreed that the clockwork system was not satisfactory, and from enquiries made it was found that in other towns where the same system was in vogue there was continual trouble on account of the mechanism getting out of order.
It was eventually decided, ou the motion of Cr Stewart, seconded by Cr Coley, that enquiry be made by the Town Clerk re the automatic system of' lighting street lamps in Levin, and ascertain whether the same would be applicable to the street lamps of Foxton, and report.
