BOROUGH CUP AND MUNICIPAL STAKES.
[By Advance.]
In looking down the list of probable starters for the Municipal Stakes, I find that good old horse. The Doctor, will be missing from the nominations this time. l am sorry his stable has withdrawn him, more especially as they are not going to enter him for the Borough Cup, for which event he was a strong favourite. At the time of writing, Flaxie is the only starter, and it looks like a walk-over for him, but rumour hath it that Flaxie will not have it on his own, as there is some talk of a dark horse whose stable expects to run a good race. He has not been tried over the distance, but is a wonderful stayer, and should he start, he will have no difficulty in keeping astride of Flaxie.
In reference to the Municipal Stakes, I find the following horses mentioned as likely starters: That good old stayer, The Growler; another old runner in this event, Cannie Chiel; then we have Waterfall, a bright, upstanding gelding, who runs very well, and should have started in the big event; the next •is Standing Orders, a promising young colt, followed by F'armer, who has tried the course and succeeded in running a fair second ; another is Auld Recki, an aged grey horse, who has not yet tried such a long distance, but has run consistently over smaller distances, and comes from the Progress stable ; he is followed by The Dauber, another aged horse, a plucky animal, and who ran second to The Doctor in a small event lately ; the next on my list is Wharf Rat, a small, but sturdy nag, also from the Progress stable, and who is a straight-out runner, and ran a good race lately, beating that sturdy nag County Council; another aged horse is Spokes, from the Progress stable, an old nag, but consistent, atd a fair goer; next is Railway, also from the Progress stable, a fair upstanding nag, as yet untried, and this will be his first race; Paddocker comes from the Progress stable, he is young, and will be a trier from the word “go” ; another horse is Superintendent, a new trier at the game, very erratic, and possessed of a bad temper; yet another is What’s Yours, a handsome-looking colt, untried in any event, but should run well; and last, but not least, Kareie Lad, who should run well, although he has not yet been tried over a stiff course, but is said to be fond of the racecourse, and is a regular flyer.
