SHANNON NOTES.
(Own Correspondent)
A bazaar to raise funds for the extension ot the Catholic Church was opened by G. Stephenson Esq., chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, on Thursday, Quite a number of stalls bearing local names were arranged along one side of the Druids’ Hall, while a bevy of charming girls occupied the floor space and whose persuasive eloquence could not be denied by any male person—not even by making flanking movements. Many pieces of furniture are to be raffled and the bazaar promises to be a great financial success. The drawing for the prizes is in the capable hands of Mr W. Moynham, and is executed on the stage in the presence of prominent townspeople. The following ladies are in charge of the different stalls: “ Shannon,” Mrs Moynhan ; “Miranui,” Mrs Gill; sweet stall, Misses Ryan and Butterworth ; “Tokomaru,” Mesdames Perry and Manning ; “Whitaunui,” Mrs Curran ; bran tub, Mollie Curran ; shooting gallery, Mr Trainer.
