TOWN CLERK S REPORT.
The Town Clerk submitted the following report on the workings of the borough for the past month, at Monday night’s Council meeting “Since the last monthly meeting the day-men have been employed fixing drain pipes across the full width of Gladstone street, repairing sand drift in Harbour street, in front of the pound, and have repaired the Park gate, fixed piping across Spring and Avenue streets junction, cut the willows out ot Awahou drain, formed the footpath at the corner of Johnston street and Frances street, and curbed same, cleaned out Main street w&ter channels three times, and are at present making asphalt in the borough yard.
“In accordance with the instructions of the Council, I proceeded to Wellington last week, and have succeeded in making arrangements for a supply of better films. I was also successful in obtaining music for the orchestra, which has been strengthened by an additional player, Mr Walden, a flautist. While in Wellington, 1 made it my business to visit as many picture shows as possible. I saw the six principal ones, and can say without any hesitation that our local pictures are as good as those I saw. We do not get the star pictures as soon as they do in the city—•neither* does any country town —but you can see rainy films in Wellington as well as in Foxton.”
