THE DEFENCE ACT.
UPHELD BY WOMEN, i
At a meeting of the Canterbury Women’s Social and Political league recently, the Defence Act was discussed, and the following motion was adopted unanimously; —“That, while strongly deprecatl ingwar and looking forward to the time when all international disputes shall be settled by peace] ful means, the Canterbury Women’s Social and Political Deague recognises that under pre*
sent conditions, and in view of possible contingencies, it is necessary that every young man shall be trained to defend himself, his home, and his country. We are of opinion that the Defence Act is an honest endeavour on the part of legislators to meet the requirements of the Dominion in case of invasion.”
