Mr G. Brewer has disposed of all his Foxton property and intends leaving shortly for the Taranaki district, having purchased a farm in the vicinity of New Plymouth.

Mrs Lynch died at the Auckland Hospital yesterday as the result of lysol poisoning. The Dreadnought New Zealand was visited by a thousand children at Capetown on Tuesday. New Plymouth ratepayers have sanctioned the borrowing of ior trams and for street and water extensions.
Mr H. E. Holland, journalist and orator, will lecture in Foxton on Saturday and Sunday the Bth and 9th instants, under the auspices of the Foxton Branch of the New Zealand Socialist Party. Cadet Jackson of the local Salvation corps has been transferred, and Cadet Watson has been appointed in her stead. The annual harvest thanksgiving services will be held on Sunday next. Mr W. E. Parry, ex-President of the Waihi Miners Union, and one of the leaders in the now historic Waihi strike, has been appointed organiser by the Flaxmills Employees’ Union. At the fortnightly meeting of the Druids’ Lodge to be held tomorrow night, the newly-elected District President, Bro, F. Woods, will be installed into bis office by P.D.P. Bro. Murray, of Shannon. The Arbitration Court,, in Wellington, awarded the relatives of Thomas Parker, a telegraph linesman, who was killed while working on the telegraph lines, compensation. At the Wanganui Regatta today, Mr H. McKegney, of Foxton, gained second place in the Maiden Sculls, being beaten by Caldwell, of Wanganui, by two lengths. There were five starters.
A conference issitting iu Wellington at the Prime Minister’s office in an endeavour to settle the dispute between the Marine Engineers and the U.S.S. Co. Both parties are represented. At Tuesday’s meeting of the County Council, an application was read from B. E. Johnson, Foxton, as to the condition of Mile drain, and asking Council to pay half cost of cleaning it. It was decided to reply that no funds were available for the purpose. A Masterton resident, named R. J. Ewington, married, aged 35 years, accidentally shot himself while out pig shooting iu Lower Wairarapa on Monday. He died while being carried out of the bush.
The Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister) will deliver a policy speech at Christchurch on Tuesday evening next. This will be his first big policy speech, as Prime Minister, in one of the large centres.
Beach residents will have to watch out. At present two constables are living in their midst. Constable Morris, of Palmerston North, is recuperating after a severe illness, and Constable Sweeney is enjoying his leave in the locality. Says the New Zealacd Trade Review: “One very important factor in the growth of imports is motor cars and bicycles. We may safely, assume that this line accounts for fully of the year’s imports, and has an increase of nearly ,£250,000 over the previous year.” In a cricket match at Greytbwu last Saturday between Benedicts and Bachelors, Mr H, Hawke, a benedict, carried out his bat for 50. His score coincided with his age which was .50 that day. He received the hearty congratulations of both teams. May he reach the century before old Father Time scatters his bails. In the total eclipse of the moon, which takes place on the night of March 22, the first contact with the shadow will begin at 9.30 p.m. The beginning of the total phase will be at 10.41 p.m., the middle of the eclipse at 11.28 p.m., and the end of the total phase 15 minutes after midnight. The shadow passes off at 1.13 a.m.
The foundation stone laying ceremony in connection with the new Methodist Church is to be laid by the Hon. C. M. Luke, M.L.C., Vice-President of the Conference and ex-President of the Primitive Methodist Conference, and Mr G. H. Stiles, on April 2nd at 2.30 p.m. A public meeting to celebrate the event will be held in the evening.
The s.s* Kennedy,. coaMaden from Westport, arrived at the bar yesterday morning but was unable to enter the river on account of the heavy sea and shortness of water on the bar. She got over this morning and is now at the wharf. The Waverley, coal-laden from Westport and Queen of the South with general merchandise from Wellington also arrived this morning. The Kennedy will sail to-morrow morning with a load of cattle for Greyraouth, and the Queen of the South, with hemp for Wellington, and Waverley for Terakohe are also due to sail tomorrow morning. The Awahou, with general merchandise from Wellington, is expected toniorrow.
