Auckland, Feb. ,28. At an inquest on Minotaur Caroline Bush, a girl aged sixteen years, who died in the hospital, the jury returned a verdict that an illegal operation was the cause of death,, but that there was not sufficient evidence to enable them to determine who performed the operation. Dunedin, Feb. 28. A boy named Vincent Park, aged seven years and nine months was drowned at Ravensbourne to-day. ■ Deceased and a little brother aged four were playing on the landing steps at the wharf and • the former fell into the water. The younger brother says he told 1 two men about the accident, but apparently he failed to make himself understood. A search for the body was unsuccessful.
Hastings, Feb. 28. Thomas Jones, thirteen years of age, an apprentice in the stable of J. M. Cameron, private trainer to Mr A. F. Douglas, was kicked on the chin by a young horse this morning and killed outright. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
Dunedin, Feb. 28. The local agents have been advised that William Fergusson, a single man, was accidentallykilled by a fall of coal on Wednesday morning in the New Brighton mine, Nightcaps, Timaru, February 28. At the annual meeting of the Gas Company to-night the profit was reported to be £2220. A dividend of 10 per cent, was adopted. A large new 130,000 ft holder is in course of construction, and has been spent on new retorts. The output for the year was a record, and applications for supplies were continually coming in.
