OBITUARY.
Mr J. Pawson, one of Feilding’s oldest residents, died on Wednesday last. He came out to New Zealand- with his lather from Yorkshire to Wellington in the sailing ship Coralmantle about 76 years ago aud resided in Wellington for some time, then came on to Foxton, where, after residing for a little time, the Maoris becoming troublesome, his parents found it necessary to move and went to Canterbury and settled on Bank’s Peninsular. He there married a daughter of Mr Brightmeyer of German Bay, who predeceased him 16 years ago. He was a sawmiller tor some years on the Peninsular, afterwards going to West Oxford and then came to the North Island and settled in Feilding where he had lived for about 36 years. He leaves a family of—John (Foxton), Edwin (Otaki), William (Dannevirke), Fred (Feilding), Mrs J. McLeod (Feilding), Mrs Geo. Adsett (Feilding), Mrs H. Hart (Foxton), and Mrs B. Martin (Feilding). He had four sisters living : Mrs J. Stevenson (West Oxford), Mrs Borrett (Castlemaue, Victoria), Mrs J. Jacobsen (Feilding), Mrs J. May (Sydenham, Christchurch). Mr Pawson was for many years in the employ of the Feilding Borough Council.
