DEFENCE MATTERS.
CADETS INSPECTED BY GENERAL GODLEY.
Major-General Godley, who is at present on a tour of inspection of the Senior Cadets, visited this district on Thursday, when he inspected No. 49, Company at Raugiotu and Foxton. There was a particularly good muster and the boys were put through both physical and company drill, and were very enthusiastic. The General, in addressing the company, complimented the boys on their neat appearance and the ready, manner in which they had picked up their drill, and expressed the hope that when he again inspected them next year that he would find such a good company and an increase in numbers. He asked them to bear in mind the fact that it was their duty, in case of war, to take their share in the defence of the country and with this object in view they should make themselves as efficient as possible by attending very carefully to all instructions in drill and rifle work that were given them.
Major-General Godley left Foxton at 2.45 p.m. tor Levin, for the purpose of, inspecting the cadets at the Weraroa Training Farm and the Levin cadets.
