VALEDICTORY.
On Monday the children of St. Mary’s School presented the Rev. Father Kelly with a handsome set of brushes and silvermounted shaving mug. An address from the children was read by Madge Desmond. Farewell songs were sung by the children. Father Kelly expressed his thanks in a short speech. He wished the children a bright future, aud said he would always remember them. Rev.- Father Doolaghty from Palmerston was present on the occasion. The following is the address read on behalf of the children : “ Dear Father, It is with feelings of regret we come to bid you farewell. We are sorry to lose the devoted pastor who established for us a school in which we may learn the truths of religion, as well as secular subjects. We wish to show our appreciation of and gratitude to you by living up to your teaching, and to the teaching we receive in our school, and trying to reflect credit on it by the lives we lead. We beg you to accept this small token of our esteem and regard, and hope you will not forget us in your prayers. May you be very happy in your new sphere of duties as pastor of the parish of Kaikoura, is the earnest and heartfelt wish of your devoted children of St. Mary’s School.”
