SUPREME COURT.

PALMERSTON SITTINGS,

The Supreme Court commenced its quarterly sittings at Palmerston on Tuesday. Frederick Hugo Noffke, charged, fir.tly, with forging at Halcombe a fourth standard school certificate for the purpose of entering the Railwaj Department as a junior surfaceman, and, secondly, with uttering the same to the Department, was found not guilty, and discharged. Waddington Hanson Garvey, charged with falsely making a declaration of marriage at Feildiug on registering the birth of his child, was also found not guilty. Hamuera Rewiti, charged with attempting to discharge a shot gun with intent to maim his wife, and with assaulting her at Tahoraite, near Daunevirke, on February ist, was found guilty of common assault, and was admitted to probation for i2 months, and ordered to take out a prohibition order against himself. John Hprrocks Whellan was charged with discharging a revolver with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to John Wilkinson, and also with assaulting him, on January 27, at L,evin, The accused pleaded not guilty. Alter hearing evidence ot Wilkinson, who had been paying attention to accused’s wife, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. His Honour, to the accused: “You are discharged. Appareully the jury thought proper for you to discharge a gun at Wilkiu son.’’
