The services in All Saints’ Church to-morrow will be at 8 a.m., n a.m., and 7 p.m. The All Saints’ Sunday school are holding their picnic to-day at Mr W- Barber’s, Motuiti.

The Try Again Lodge, 1.0.G.T. advertise that its weekly meetings will be resumed as from Monday next.

The services to-morrow in the local Catholic church will be, Mass xx a.m., Devotions 7 p.m., conducted by the Rev Father Kelly. . The attendance shield at the local State school was won this week by Standard IV., with an average attendance of 99.4 per cent.

The catering arrangements for the banquet tendered to the Hon. Mr Herries by the Borough Council, were carried out very efficiently by Mr Leu. Freeman, host of Whyte’s Hotel. The Harbour Board chartered Mr Daniells’ oil launch on Thursday afternoon, and took the visiting Minister and his officers and other visiting representatives and local delegates as far as the Heads The party returned by motor car. The Awahou arrived from Wellington yesterday with a general cargo, and she leaves for Wellington with hemp to-night. The scow Echo arrived yesterday from Havelock, timber laden, and stuck in the river near the wharf. She was subsequently berthed.

The Hon. Mr Herries made an inspection of the wharf and goods shed on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by his chief departmental officers. He also inspected Messrs Levin and Co’s, and the N.Z, Shipping Co’s, dumping sheds.

The Railway Department has consented to ruu.a school excursion from Foxton to Ashhurst on the 26th iust. The train will leave Foxton at 8 a.m. and will leave Ashhurst at 6,10. p.m. arriving at Foxton at 7 50 p.m. At the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday, James A, Tuthill, bankrupt, late licensee of the Taranaki Hotel, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of having made fraudulent payments to his wife on the eve of his bankruptcy. One of the best suggestions made at the recent conference with the Hon. Mr Herries in respect to the wharf was that the Board should get an independent valuation of the wharf and submit it at a future date to the Minister. It is argued that the departmental officers’ valuation should not be accepted as final. When the Hon. Mr Herries was making au inspection of the local , goodshed on Thursday afternoon, he received a deputation from the men employed by the Railway Department on the wharf. The deputation consisted of Messrs Hannah, Skillen and Beeston. The men asked for au increase of pay in view of the intermittent nature of their work. They presented a schedule of their earnings to the Minister and said it was impossible for them to get outside work if they were to continue their work in the shed. The Minister promised to look into the matter.
